Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if I want to work for Phoenix Learning & Care?

The first things you should do is contact Head Office and talk to someone about what vacancies we have and how to get hold of an application form. All positions require that you undergo an enhanced disclosure through the criminal records bureau.

My son has ADHD and is a bit of an handful, I could do with a couple of nights off now and again, how do I go about organising this?

If you are currently receiving direct payments then you can contact us direct and we will make arrangements, if you do not receive direct payments you should contact social services and apply. Direct payments allow parents to choose who cares for their young people and how. All our staff are CRB checked and experienced with working with young people. Sometimes staffing agencies provide staff who are only experienced in working with the elderly. We understand what a young person needs and enjoys making the experience a positive one!

Phoenix Childcare, Southern Childcare, Education and Care (Devon) Ltd and Oakwood Court are all names I keep hearing, what is Phoenix Learning & Care Ltd

Phoenix Learning & care Ltd is the group name for all these companies, over the next few years all the companies will become one, in the meantime we refer to all our services as Phoenix Learning & Care Ltd.

The answer to my question isn’t here, what should I do?

Contact Head Office and ask to speak to someone, we will always try and help!

Why do young people live with you and not at home?

The young people we work with have usually come from a difficult background and have not always had the best start in life. For these young people living within a family is very difficult and they often display behaviour which is hard for parents to cope with. We help them to understand their past and how it affects them and how to work towards caring for themselves. We always care in a none judgemental way which means we look after all young people the same whatever their background.

Other young people are born with or acquire a learning difficulty; we work with these young people facilitating them to be as good as they can be in all walks of life. These young people often struggle when it comes time for them to move away from home, we help make this transition as positive as possible.

How do I know that Phoenix Learning & Care is good at what it does?

All our services are inspected by Ofsted or C.S.C.I. and they visit at least twice every year. As Managing Director I also have a member of my senior staff visit each unit and closely inspect what they are doing, talk to the staff and most importantly talk to the young people in this way I know things are well.
Some of our reports are available online and we can provide references from social workers, parents and young people who have worked with us.
